Get the reply you want

Every plan. AI Reply and the Jetwriter window in the extension
Updated

To get the reply you want, tell Jetwriter in a few words what the reply should say, and add the facts it can't find in the message: your answer, dates, prices, names. If the first version isn't right, type what to change in the same window, or click Regenerate for a new one. Pick a Writing style and a Length to set the tone and size, and check names, dates and numbers before you send.

This works the same in Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp Web, LinkedIn and every other place the Jetwriter window opens. Each new version uses one AI response from your plan.

Say what the reply should do, with the facts

Jetwriter reads the message you're answering, so you don't need to explain it. What it can't know is your answer. Put that in your request, in your own words:

  • "Yes, Thursday 3pm works"
  • "Decline politely, we're fully booked until March"
  • "Ask for the invoice number before I can refund"
  • "Say the price is $450 and the files will be ready on Friday"

A request with only a tone, like "reply professionally", leaves Jetwriter to guess the answer. If you leave the box empty, it decides the whole reply from the message.

Say what to keep

If part of your own text must stay as it is, say so: "Keep my first paragraph, rewrite the rest", or "Keep the price and the date as they are".

To fix spelling and grammar in text you wrote, without having it rewritten, select the text and use Fix spelling & grammar from the toolbar that appears on selected text. It corrects mistakes and changes nothing else. See Fix, rewrite or translate selected text.

Ask for changes

When the reply appears, type what to change in the box at the bottom of the Jetwriter window and press Enter. In Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp Web and LinkedIn, the box says "Tell AI what to change (e.g., 'Shorter and more direct')". For example:

  • "Shorter, two sentences"
  • "Less formal, it's a colleague"
  • "Remove the part about the discount"
  • "Add that I'll call on Monday"

Jetwriter keeps the conversation, so each change builds on the last version.

Pick a writing style and a length

Under the box where you type, click Writing style to pick Professional, Casual, Straightforward, Persuasive or Friendly, and Length to pick Short, Medium or Long. Your choice stays picked for your next replies; click the × next to it to remove it. With nothing picked, email replies use a professional tone and a medium length.

To make a style of your own, such as your company's voice:

  1. Click Writing style, then Add Style.
  2. Enter a Style Name, such as "Brand voice".
  3. In Style Instructions, describe how to write, for example "Warm and direct. Short sentences. No exclamation marks."
  4. Click Save. The style is now in the Writing style list. You can have up to 20 of your own.

Get a new version, or change your request

Point at the reply in the Jetwriter window to show the buttons under it:

  • Regenerate (the circular arrow) writes a new version for the same request.
  • Feedback (the thumbs-down) tells our team what was wrong with it.
  • The copy button (two squares) copies the reply.

To change what you asked for, point at your request and click Edit (the pencil). Your request goes back into the box: change it and press Enter, and Jetwriter writes the reply again from there.

Check names, dates and numbers

Jetwriter writes from the message and from what you typed, and it can still get a name, a date or a number wrong. Read the reply before you click Insert, and again in your email or chat before you send it. Jetwriter never sends anything on its own.

Save requests you use often

If you often ask for the same thing, save it as a prompt template:

  1. In the Jetwriter window, click the bookmark icon next to the paperclip, under the box where you type.
  2. Click Add Prompt Template.
  3. Fill in Template Name (optional) and Template Text, then click Save.

Next time, click the bookmark icon and click the template to put its text in the box. To have the window start with a template each time it opens, point at the template and click its star.

Set your instructions once

Instructions you'd give every time, such as your role, your language or "never promise a delivery date", belong in Personalize AI. Jetwriter then follows them in every reply. See Tell Jetwriter about you, and how to reply (Personalize AI). For replies that sound like your own past emails in Gmail, see Connect Gmail so replies use your past emails, or disconnect it.

You can also pick a different AI model in the Jetwriter window: see Pick an AI model and thinking level.

Tell us about a bad reply

Point at the reply and click Feedback (the thumbs-down). Under "How can this be better?", say what was wrong, for example "It ignored my date and made up a price", then click Submit. This doesn't change the reply: it goes to our team, who use it to improve Jetwriter's replies. To get a better reply now, ask for changes or click Regenerate.
