Open jetwriter.ai/app#settings/gmailIntegration, signed in, and look at Auto-draft. If it shows an Enable button, Auto-Drafts is off or Gmail was disconnected: click Enable and allow both permissions Google asks for. If it shows a count such as "50 / 50 drafts today", you've reached the daily limit and drafts start again at midnight UTC. If it shows an upgrade card, your account is on the Free plan. If the count has room left, such as "12 / 50 drafts today", and a Disable button shows, Auto-Drafts is on: go through the causes below, most common first.
Jetwriter doesn't warn you about most of these: drafts stop, and only the monthly limit sends you an email.
The email didn't need a reply
Auto-Drafts only drafts for emails that need a reply from you, such as a question or a request. Most emails don't get one:
- newsletters, promotions, receipts, alerts and other automatic emails;
- out-of-office replies, bounces, and messages that are only for your information;
- emails in Gmail's Promotions, Social, Updates and Forums tabs, and emails you sent yourself;
- emails that don't land in your Inbox, such as those a Gmail filter archives or that go to Spam;
- emails that arrived before you turned Auto-Drafts on.
When it isn't sure an email needs a reply, it leaves it. Use AI Reply for those: see Reply to an email in Gmail with AI Reply.
You reached the daily limit
Auto-Drafts makes up to 50 drafts a day on Elite, 70 on Ultra and 30 on Pro. Gmail Integration shows the count under Auto-draft, such as "50 / 50 drafts today". The count starts again at midnight UTC.
Emails that arrive after the limit don't get a draft later, even once the count starts again. Reply to them with AI Reply.
You used this month's Auto-Drafts
Auto-Drafts share your plan's monthly allowance with the advanced models. When you've used the Auto-Drafts your plan includes, they pause, and you get an email with the subject "Gmail auto-draft limit reached — back on" followed by the date. They turn back on by themselves on that date, when your billing cycle resets. To get more sooner, upgrade to a bigger plan: see Upgrade, downgrade or switch to yearly billing.
Emails that arrive while Auto-Drafts are paused don't get drafts later. For how the allowance works, see Limits on Elite and Ultra, and "Advanced models paused".
Gmail was disconnected, or the drafts permission is missing
If Gmail Integration shows Enable next to Auto-draft, Auto-Drafts is off. That happens when:
- you disconnected Gmail, or clicked Disable next to Auto-draft;
- you removed Jetwriter's access in your Google Account, or Google ended it, for example after a password change;
- you didn't allow "Manage drafts and send emails" when Google asked, so Gmail connected without Auto-Drafts.
To fix it:
- In Gmail Integration, click Enable next to Auto-draft.
- Choose the Google account whose inbox should get drafts.
- Allow both permissions: "View your email messages and settings" and "Manage drafts and send emails". Jetwriter only saves drafts and never sends email.
If Google sends you to a page that says "Auto-draft setup failed", Gmail is connected but Auto-Drafts couldn't be turned on: click Enable next to Auto-draft again.
Your plan doesn't include Auto-Drafts right now
Auto-Drafts work on Elite, Ultra and Pro. They stop, without a notice, when:
- your subscription ended and your account moved to Free;
- a payment failed and your subscription is past due: they start again once the payment goes through. See Your payment failed or is past due;
- you're on the free Elite trial, which doesn't include Auto-Drafts.
On Free, Gmail Integration shows an upgrade card instead of the Auto-draft setting.
The conversation already has your reply or your draft
Auto-Drafts drafts only when the newest message in a conversation is from the other person. There's no new draft if:
- you've already replied after that email arrived;
- you started or edited a draft in that conversation after it arrived, for example a reply you began yourself.
An older draft you haven't touched since the email arrived doesn't stop a new one.
Your draft filters leave the email out
If you wrote draft filters, only emails that match them get drafts. To check, click Customize draft filters under Auto-draft in Gmail Integration. Change or clear the text in Draft filters and click Save. With the box empty, every email that needs a reply gets a draft.
Another Jetwriter account drafts for this inbox
Each Gmail inbox can get Auto-Drafts from one Jetwriter account only. If you see "Auto-draft already in use" when you turn it on, another Jetwriter account already drafts for that inbox, for example an older account of yours or a teammate's. That account needs to click Disable next to Auto-draft, or disconnect Gmail, before you can turn it on.
You're looking in a different Gmail account
Drafts go to the Gmail account you connected, which Gmail Integration shows at the top, marked Connected. If you read several Gmail accounts, check that one, including its Drafts folder. To switch accounts, see Connect Gmail so replies use your past emails, or disconnect it.
Still no drafts?
Email support@jetwriter.ai from your Jetwriter account's email address, with:
- the Gmail address shown in Gmail Integration, and your plan;
- a screenshot of Gmail Integration, showing the Auto-draft row;
- one email that should have had a draft: when it arrived, and who sent it;
- whether Auto-Drafts ever worked for you, and when it stopped.
With these, the first reply can usually tell you what happened.
