To reply with Jetwriter AI in WhatsApp, open the chat in WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com) and click **AI Reply** in the message bar, next to the microphone. Type in a few words what to answer, for example "Yes, Friday works", and Jetwriter writes the message from the chat. Click **Insert** to put it in WhatsApp's message box, check it, and send it yourself: Jetwriter never sends anything on its own.

**AI Reply** only appears in WhatsApp Web, in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera or Vivaldi on a computer, with the Jetwriter AI extension (formerly ChatGPT Writer) installed and signed in. It works the same with WhatsApp Business accounts. Each reply uses one AI response from your plan; the Free plan includes 15 a month.

## Write the reply

1. Open [web.whatsapp.com](https://web.whatsapp.com) in your browser and open the chat you want to answer.
2. Click **AI Reply** (1), at the right end of the message bar. The Jetwriter window opens, showing **Conversation:** and the chat's name.

AI Reply sits in the message bar of every chat you open in WhatsApp Web.

3. In the box that says "Tell AI what to write (e.g., 'Politely decline')", type what the message should say. A few words are enough: Jetwriter already reads the chat. You can also send the box empty and let it decide.
4. If you like, pick a **Writing style**, such as **Friendly** or **Casual**, and a **Length**.
5. Press **Enter**, or click the send arrow. The message appears in a few seconds.

To change it, type what to change in the box that says "Tell AI what to change (e.g., 'Shorter and more direct')" and send again.

## Put the message in WhatsApp and send it

1. Click **Insert**, under the message in the Jetwriter window. The message goes into WhatsApp's message box (1) and the Jetwriter window closes. It replaces anything you had already typed there.
2. Check the message and edit it like any other. When it's right, click WhatsApp's send button (2), or press **Enter**.

The message waits in WhatsApp's message box until you send it.

The message is plain text, without bold or lists, as WhatsApp shows it. Line breaks are kept.

## What AI Reply reads

AI Reply reads the open chat: the text of the messages WhatsApp Web shows, who wrote each one, the chat's name, and your name from your own messages. It reads only the messages loaded in the chat, which are the recent ones plus any older ones you scrolled up to. It can't see photos or hear voice messages, and a long message cut off with "Read more" is read up to the cut. To see what it read, point at **Conversation:** in the Jetwriter window.

To answer one message in particular, use WhatsApp's own **Reply** on that message first, then click **AI Reply**. The Jetwriter window shows **Replying to Quoted Message**, and the reply answers that message.

AI Reply works in group chats too. It doesn't read your other chats.

## On your phone or in the WhatsApp app

**AI Reply** doesn't appear in the WhatsApp app on a phone, or in the WhatsApp desktop app for Windows or Mac, because the extension only runs in a browser on a computer. On a computer, open [web.whatsapp.com](https://web.whatsapp.com) in your browser instead. On a phone, you can write the message in the Jetwriter web app and paste it into WhatsApp: see [Use Jetwriter on your phone](https://jetwriter.ai/help/jetwriter-on-your-phone).

## If something goes wrong

- **No AI Reply button:** reload the WhatsApp Web tab. That fixes it in most cases, especially right after you install or update Jetwriter. If it's still missing, see [The AI Reply button isn't showing](https://jetwriter.ai/help/ai-reply-button-missing).
- **The message didn't go into WhatsApp:** see [The reply didn't go into the text box](https://jetwriter.ai/help/reply-didnt-insert).
- **The reply is in the wrong language:** say the language in your request, such as "Reply in Spanish". See [Write in another language, or stop unwanted translation](https://jetwriter.ai/help/reply-language).
