# Set up Auto-Drafts

> On Elite, Ultra or Pro, click Enable next to Auto-draft in the web app's Gmail settings. Replies then wait as drafts in Gmail, and nothing is sent.

- Applies to: Elite, Ultra and Pro plans, including team plans, with a Gmail account
- Updated: Nov 7, 2026
- Web page: https://jetwriter.ai/help/auto-drafts

Auto-Drafts writes a reply to each email that needs one as it arrives in your Gmail inbox, and saves it as a draft in that conversation. When you open the email, on your computer or in the Gmail app on your phone, the reply is waiting for you to check, edit and send. Nothing is ever sent for you. To turn it on, go to [jetwriter.ai/app#settings/gmailIntegration](https://jetwriter.ai/app#settings/gmailIntegration) and click **Enable** next to **Auto-draft**. It's included in the Elite, Ultra and Pro plans.

## Who can use Auto\-Drafts

- **Elite, Ultra and Pro plans**, monthly or yearly, and team plans. The Free plan and the free Elite trial don't include it.
- **Up to 50 drafts a day on Elite**, 70 on Ultra and 30 on Pro. The count starts again at midnight UTC.
- **Within your plan's monthly allowance**, which Auto-Drafts share with the advanced models. When you've used the Auto-Drafts your plan includes for the month, they pause until your billing cycle resets, and you get an email: see [Auto-Drafts aren't appearing](https://jetwriter.ai/help/auto-drafts-not-appearing).
- **One Jetwriter account per Gmail inbox.** If another Jetwriter account already drafts for an inbox, you can't turn it on for the same inbox.

You don't need the extension for Auto-Drafts: the drafts are made in your Gmail account, so they show wherever you read it.

## Turn on Auto\-Drafts

You can do this on a computer or a phone.

1. Go to [jetwriter.ai/app](https://jetwriter.ai/app) and sign in with the Jetwriter account that has your paid plan.
2. Click **Settings** at the bottom of the sidebar, then **Gmail Integration**. While signed in, you can also open [jetwriter.ai/app#settings/gmailIntegration](https://jetwriter.ai/app#settings/gmailIntegration) directly.
3. Next to **Auto-draft**, click **Enable** (1). Google's sign-in opens.

![Gmail Integration in the web app's settings, with Gmail not connected: Personalization, 'Allow AI to analyze your Gmail past emails to learn your style and retrieve details.', and Auto-draft, 'Allow AI to automatically draft replies in your Gmail inbox for incoming emails that need a response.', each with an Enable button.](https://jetwriter.ai/images/help/auto-drafts/web-app-enable.webp)

Enable next to Auto-draft connects Gmail and turns on Auto-Drafts in one go.

4. Choose the Google account whose inbox should get drafts.
5. Allow both permissions Google asks for: "View your email messages and settings", so Jetwriter can read new emails, and "Manage drafts and send emails", so it can save drafts in your Gmail. Jetwriter only saves drafts: it never sends an email.
6. You're back in **Gmail Integration**. Under **Auto-draft** you see today's count (1), such as "0 / 50 drafts today", and a **Disable** button (2): Auto-Drafts is on.

![Gmail Integration with Gmail connected: ben@carterstudio.co marked Connected, Personalization marked Enabled, and Auto-draft showing '0 / 50 drafts today', a Customize draft filters link and a Disable button.](https://jetwriter.ai/images/help/auto-drafts/auto-draft-on.webp)

With Auto-Drafts on, Gmail Integration shows how many drafts were made today, out of your plan's daily number.

*Numbers in the screenshot:* (1) Drafts today; (2) Disable

If you leave out the second permission, Gmail is connected but **Auto-draft** stays off. Click **Enable** again and allow both.

Turning on Auto-Drafts also connects Gmail for personalized replies, so your replies with **AI Reply** use your past emails too: see [Connect Gmail so replies use your past emails](https://jetwriter.ai/help/connect-gmail).

If Gmail is already connected, the Jetwriter window in Gmail can show "Jetwriter can draft Gmail replies for you, right in your inbox." Its **Set it up** link opens the same settings.

## Which emails get a draft

Auto-Drafts only drafts for emails that arrive in your Inbox after you turn it on, and only for those that need a reply from you:

- **A draft:** a question for you; a request for an action, a decision, an approval or information; a real person writing through a contact form or support system, when you can reply to them.
- **No draft:** newsletters, promotions, receipts, alerts and other automatic emails; out-of-office replies and bounces; messages that are only for your information; conversations you've already answered.
- **Skipped:** emails in Gmail's Promotions, Social, Updates and Forums tabs, emails you sent yourself, and emails that don't land in your Inbox, such as those a Gmail filter archives or that go to Spam.

When it isn't sure an email needs a reply, it leaves it without a draft.

## Choose which emails get drafts

To get drafts only for some emails, describe them in your own words:

1. In **Gmail Integration**, under **Auto-draft**, click **Customize draft filters**. It shows while Auto-Drafts is on.
2. In **Draft filters**, write which emails should get a draft (1). For example: "Only draft for emails marked Important, or labeled Clients. Skip anything from recruiters." You can name your Gmail labels.
3. Click **Save** (2).

![The Draft filters window: 'Tell us which emails should get an auto-draft. Leave blank, and we'll draft for anything that needs a reply.', a box holding 'Only draft for emails labeled Clients or Partners.', and a Save button.](https://jetwriter.ai/images/help/auto-drafts/draft-filters.webp)

Draft filters takes your own words, and can name your Gmail labels.

*Numbers in the screenshot:* (1) Which emails get a draft; (2) Save

Leave the box empty to get drafts for every email that needs a reply. Filters only narrow the choice: an email that doesn't need a reply gets no draft, whatever the filter says.

## Where the drafts appear

- **In the email's conversation**, as a reply waiting to be sent, and in Gmail's **Drafts** folder. In your inbox, Gmail shows "Draft" in red next to the sender.
- **On your computer and in the Gmail app on your phone**, since the draft is saved in your Gmail account.
- **From the right address:** if your inbox gets mail for several addresses, such as support@ and sales@, each draft replies from the address the email was sent to, with that address's Gmail signature.

Each draft answers the newest message in the conversation, in your style, using your past emails and what you've told Jetwriter in Personalize AI. If you've connected Google Calendar in **Settings** > **Calendar Integration**, a draft that answers a request to meet can suggest times you're free.

To use a draft, open the email, check the draft, edit it if you like, and click **Send**. To throw it away, delete it like any Gmail draft.

## Turn off Auto\-Drafts

1. Go to [jetwriter.ai/app](https://jetwriter.ai/app), click **Settings** at the bottom of the sidebar, then **Gmail Integration**.
2. Next to **Auto-draft**, click **Disable**.

Gmail stays connected, so replies keep using your past emails. Drafts already in Gmail stay there until you send or delete them. To disconnect Gmail completely, see [Connect Gmail so replies use your past emails, or disconnect it](https://jetwriter.ai/help/connect-gmail).
