Jetwriter AI is a Chrome extension that helps you write faster and better—anywhere on the web. Use it to compose emails and messages, correct grammar, rephrase text, change tone, summarize pages, chat with the page, and more without switching tabs. It works especially well in Gmail, Zoho, LinkedIn, and Freshdesk, where you can generate context-aware replies in one click. Jetwriter supports top AI models like GPT, Gemini, and Claude, and there’s also a companion AI chat web app for desktop and mobile.

This guide shows you how to use your own API key with the Jetwriter browser extension.

Why use your own API key?

Jetwriter offers a Free plan with limited monthly usage and Paid plans with unlimited usage (see pricing: https://jetwriter.ai/pricing).

If you prefer, you can plug in your own API key from OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Anthropic Claude. In that case:

  • You pay the model provider directly based on your usage.
  • You still use all Jetwriter features in the extension—just with your own billing and quotas.

Good to know: Using your own key is optional. You can switch back to Jetwriter’s included usage anytime.

Step-by-Step Guide to Adding Your API Key

  1. Download the Jetwriter AI Browser Extension: If you haven't already, download the extension from the official website: https://jetwriter.ai/browser
  2. Create a Free Account: Activate the extension by creating a free account. No credit card is required.
  3. Go to Extension Settings: Open the extension and navigate to the settings menu.
  4. Enable "Use your own API key": Find the option to "Use your own API key" and turn it on.
  5. Enter Your API Key: You can enter API keys for OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude models.
  6. Save Save your changes. That’s it!

Now you can use Jetwriter on any page—reply to emails in Gmail, fix grammar, summarize a webpage, compose LinkedIn replies, answer Freshdesk tickets, and more—powered by your own provider account.

Where to Get Your API Key

Note: You will need to enter your credit card details on the AI model provider's website to obtain an API key. Your card will be charged based on your usage.

How billing works with your key

  • Model costs are charged by the provider (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic) to the payment method on your provider account.
  • When your own key is active, provider rate limits and quotas apply.

Privacy & security

  • Your API key is stored locally in your browser and is never saved on Jetwriter’s servers.
  • The key is used only to generate responses—nothing else.

Tips

  • Switching back to Jetwriter usage: Turn off “Use your own API key” in Settings.
  • Removing a key: Clear the key field and save.
  • Testing quickly: Try a short prompt (e.g., “Fix grammar” on a sentence) to confirm your setup.

Write more, switch tabs less—now with your own API key in Jetwriter AI.
